Renewing Your Mind: Clairsentience

Wednesday, February 18th, 2015

One time when my husband Russ was on a business trip to Mexico, he nearly drowned. I was thousands of miles away at the time — taking our daughter to the dentist here in the United States — when all of a sudden I was inexplicably overcome with a feeling that Russ was in serious danger. I felt a wet sensation on my skin when no water was nearby. Then I sensed a strong urge to pray for Russ’ safety. So I did pray for him, silently, standing in the middle of the dentist’s office.

That evening when I spoke with Russ by phone, I told him what had happened and asked him if he’d been in danger during the day. It turned out that he had a team outing on jet skis out in the ocean that afternoon (which I hadn’t known about) and he had accidentally fallen off his jet ski. Then he had been pulled down under the water by a panicking coworker who had also fallen off and grabbed onto him for help.

When we adjusted for the time zone differences, it turned out that at precisely the time that happened to Russ, I had that clairsentient experience. Clairsentience (which means “clear feeling”) is a form of extrasensory perception (ESP) that involves receiving spiritual knowledge in your mind through either your emotions and/or your sense of touch.

How about you? If you’ve had a clairsentient experience that you’d like to share to inspire others through your story, email it to me at:

Renewing Your Mind: Clairgustance

Wednesday, February 11th, 2015

While driving during a heavy snowstorm, I pulled over to the side of the road to let an ambulance through and got stuck in a ditch as a result. Several kindhearted people helped me try to push my car free while snow pelted our faces and cars skidded past us. Stress piled up in my mind as fast as snow piled up on the ground where we stood. So I did what I always do in a stressful crisis: pray.

A sense of peace washed over me afterward, but something else happened that caught my attention. I experienced a distinctive taste in my mouth — white grape juice mixed with vanilla wafer cookies — which brought back comforting memories of the summer days in my childhood when I enjoyed that snack at my great-grandmother’s house. It was just what I needed to snap out of the stress and think clearly about a new strategy for pushing the car, which ended up working. After I got back on the road, thanked the other drivers, and made it safely home, I couldn’t stop thinking about that taste in my mouth. Where had it come from? I had no juice to drink or cookies to eat, yet it tasted as if I had just been drinking and eating at my late great-grandmother’s house, where all seemed carefree.

Tasting something that’s not physically there is a form of extrasensory perception (ESP) called clairgustance. You can develop a sensitivity to such messages if God wants to send any to you, but you’ll probably be taken by surprise if you do have a clairgustant experience, since they’re rather rare. That’s the only one I can remember experiencing in my life, and I still wonder whether the taste came from God answering my prayer, from my great-grandmother sending me a message in response to my prayer to God, or simply from my own mind trying to deal with overwhelming stress by bringing up a comforting memory.

How about you? If you’ve had a clairgustant experience and you’d like to share to inspire others through your story, email it to me at:

Renewing Your Mind: Clairalience

Wednesday, February 4th, 2015

Part of my recent series about extrasensory perception (ESP) for About.com includes the phenomenon of clairalience, which involves smelling a fragrance that comes from a spiritual source rather than a physical one. Like all forms of ESP, clairalient messages are perceived in the mind. You can increase your ability to perceive to such messages if God wants to send any to you.

One of the most common types of clairalient messages is a scent that reminds you of someone you’ve loved who has passed away. Scents are powerful memory triggers. Another type of clairalient message involves smelling the sweet fragrance of roses during prayer when no actual roses are around. I’ve had that happen to me a few times when I was praying, and I believe it was a gift from the Holy Spirit to encourage me.

How about you? If you’ve had a clairalient experience and you’d like to share to inspire others through your story, email it to me at:

Renewing Your Mind: Clairaudience

Wednesday, January 28th, 2015

Have you ever had a clairaudient experience — a time when you received a spiritual message in the form of sounds? As part of my current series about extrasensory perception (ESP) for About.com, I’m covering clairaudience and the other types of ESP.

Clairaudience can involve hearing music, singing, or voices speaking a specific message to you in your mind, without any physical source of the sounds around you.

Some of the most famous clairaudient experiences in history involve Saint Joan of Arc, who reported hearing voices from the spiritual realm giving her what they said was God’s guidance, over a period of several years. I hope you enjoy my new articles about Joan and her relationship with Archangel Michael.

I’ve also posted a new article about how to perceive clairaudient messages.

If you’ve had a clairaudient experience and you’d like to share to inspire others through your story, email it to me at:

Renewing Your Mind: Clairvoyance

Wednesday, January 21st, 2015

Have you ever had a clairvoyant experience — a time when you received a spiritual message in visual form? As part of my current series about extrasensory perception (ESP) for About.com, I’m covering clairvoyance and the other types of ESP. Clairvoyance happens in your mind whenever God gives you such a message during your dreams. When you’re awake, clairvoyance happens through visions that you see with your physical eyes rather than with your “mind’s eye.”

A close friend of mine had a remarkable clairvoyant experience years ago. Hers was of the later variety: a vision while awake. She’d been praying about having another child, which she wasn’t sure was possible for her and her husband. Suddenly she saw a clear image of a baby appear in the air in front of her, and along with the image, she got a strong sense of assurance that she and her husband would indeed have another child. The next year, they celebrated the birth of another daughter — who looked exactly like the image of the baby my friend had seen the year before in the vision!

It’s more common to experience clairvoyance in dreams. I’ve had a few clairvoyant dreams so far in my life, and so have others I know. How about you?

Hope you find this article about how to perceive clairvoyant messages useful.
